Platte City Missouri, found along the banks of the Little Platte River became an incorporated town in September of 1843. According to the 2010 census, the population is 4,691.
As an area that is known for its history, Platte City has some unique stories to tell. In the midst of the Civil War, Colonel W. James Morgan and his Union Squad set fire to parts of the city including the courthouse. The new courthouse (pictured) was modeled after the original. The famous Outlaw Jesse James has a tie here as well. He had planned a robbery of the Platte City bank on April 3, 1882 that was never carried out due to his assassination by Robert Ford that very morning. Another exciting event was an ambush on Bonnie & Clyde on July 19, 1933 that was laid out by local authorities just south of Platte City.
The Platte County R-3 School District is located for easy commuting distance from downtown Kansas City. It is a district that has some unique features to offer including a 19 to 1 student to teacher ratio, an on-site Career Center and an A+ High School Designation (free tuition for graduates to junior colleges and vocational programs)
