Parkville is a historic small town that sits just on the Missouri River. Known for its antique shopping, restaurants, art galleries, University and Historic Downtown area, Parkville is a small town with a lot to offer. Parkville is named after George S. Park, owner of the steamboat landing after his purchase of it in 1838. He also served as the town’s first postmaster. After decades of innovation for Parkville and the Kansas City area including the formation of the Parkville Presbyterian Church and the Industrial Luminary newspaper he donated the land for what would become the site of Park University.
The population was 5,554 at the 2010 census. The Historic Downtown area has a wide array of shops with a little something for everyone and much of the architecture present there dates back to the mid to late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The area also hosts yearly events that run from classic car shows, beer festivals to Christmas on the River.
