Basehor, founded in 1889 by Reuben Basehor and his brother Ephraim is built on land purchased from a Railroad surveyor in 1874. Once the Railroad was completed in 1889 they began to build the town site and it was dedicated on November 30, 1889.
A population of approximately 4,600 makes up this small town just south of Leavenworth and is considered a suburb of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Basehor is home to the Basehor Museum and Historical Society that houses exhibits on the founders of the city, early restaurants and businesses of the area as well as information on the area during World War II and Post World War II.
